How The Journey Began

Around 7 or 8 years ago, I came up against a schooling issue with my daughter's show jumping pony. She was a decent pony, an honest Connemara mare, 7 years old and generally easy to do. However, she had started to grab one side of the bit and run away with it, and I couldn't really understand why, and the jockey was starting to get a bit worried...

We were a pretty experienced family, and I had been working in the equine industry for 30 years already — yard owner, riding instructor, veterinary assistant, and some experience eventing when I was (quite a bit) younger...

One of the sports vets I work with had contacts in South Africa, and had brought home a couple of Bomber bits. I got a loan of one to see if it might help — a Bomber Blue Eggbutt.

We tried it, and it instantly solved our problem, but I couldn't really understand why, so of course, I thought "I have to find out more about this!"

I reached out to Bombers, and they were incredibly supportive and helpful. After a while I got some more formal training from Claire — and that's more or less how this project began.

Since then, I've been lucky enough to fit hundreds of horses, met some great people, and expanded my knowledge and training considerably — including, more recently, a Level 7 bit and bridle qualification. The business has grown and developed over the last few years, and Éirím Equine has grown out of that work.
